Other information and practical advice
Temperatures at Graz, and what to bring in the way of clothing
Graz has a Continental climate - hence, most winter months are chilly to cold. Do bring woollens, some sturdy shoes; or plan to buy some here.
Dress codes have well-nigh disappeared in Austria: gone are the days (and good riddance) when you could be refused access to the Vienna State Opera for not wearing a tie, or a skirt and blouse - though for a formal concert or other function in town, most people do dress up.
Most days, students at the Graz Catholic College of Education are informally dressed - much like other students in Europe.
Sports and outdoor pursuits
There is a lot of enthusiasm in this country for all sorts of sports and outdoor pursuits, and many types of sports activities are offered at CUCE Graz - see the relevant part of the College website.
All sports and other outdoor or indoor gear (usually of good quality) can be bought at Graz; particularly things relating to hiking, climbing, skiing, skating - and many other types of sport.
Music-making
If you play an instrument, and if it is portable, do bring it to CUCE Graz - you'll be one of several musicians, never lacking company, and a real following! It may be worthwhile to bring sheet music for (say) the piano, too?
Transport: getting from A to B
Graz city centre is about 1.5 km away from CUCE: i. e. 10 minutes by public transport, or bicycle. Tram and bus stops are closeby.
Graz has good public transport: trams and buses are efficient and punctual, on the whole, and electronic routing and CP-type customer information screens and panels at each stop (and inside each carriage) are now standard. A one month travelcard is currently priced at Euro 36.10; a week's unlimited travel costs Euro 10.60.
Many CUCE Graz students use a bicycle, and think nothing of walking a short or medium distance. The city of Graz has created a whole network of cycling paths right across the city - a good way to explore the town, or to get to an appointment.
The International Office at CUCE owns 5 bicycles that can be borrowed from Erasmus students during their stay.
CUCE Graz International Office, for liaising, and more information
The College's International Office liaises with potential students' own colleges of education; and gives advance information to students and college administrators.
For example, visiting students' term times do not always coincide with established semester periods at CUCE Graz: some overlapping may occur. This is one of the areas where early information can be useful.
